The Gadarchili Gora archaeological site, located in the village of Imir, has once again become the focus of attention in government and professional circles.
On February 5, 2026, Ilia Jalagania, the state representative to Kvemo Kartli, and Daur Ismailov, the mayor of Marneuli Municipality, toured the excavation site during a working visit.
The meeting was also attended by Tea Oniani, Director General of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation; David Lortkipanidze, Director of the Georgian National Museum; and Grigol Zeraghia, Executive Director of the Kvemo Kartli Regional Development Agency.
During the visit, the current stage of archaeological research and the construction of museum infrastructure were presented.
Particular attention was paid to the future development of the site, strengthening its tourism potential, and demonstrating its international significance.
Gadarchili Gora is an archaeological site of global significance: it is here that some of the oldest traces of winemaking, dating back approximately 8,000 years, were discovered. This discovery places Marneuli prominently not only on the regional but also on the global cultural map.
The meeting was also attended by local government representatives, archaeologists, and specialists in the field.
